Growing up we had a ping pong table in our house and the whole family would play, all the time. It was addicting! Lately I had been wanting to play but seeing as I only know 5 people in California, my chances were less than good that any of them would play. So I decided to go on meetup.com and check out the groups in my area. Apparently there were 56 people waiting for someone to organize a group. I figured what the hell. If I want to play, this is what I need to do. So I organized a group and we had our first event last Sunday. There are 48 members in the group and 8 showed up for this event. What was amazing was that we were all different ages, ethnicities, background, but we all just wanted to play ping pong and in turn got along amazingly well. Everyone was super friendly and just out to have a good time. What I loved was that for those 3 hours I didn’t think about anything else. I concentrated on my fast-ball serve, returning slices and slams and just being in the moment. It’s amazing what can happen when people, who might only have one thing in common, form a group based on that commonality. Our goal was to play ping pong and have a great time. I’d say we succeeded.
